New experimental statistics on the used car market launched

HCSO has entered into cooperation with the portal használtautó.hu

The cooperation agreement signed in 2025 between the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) and Használtautó.hu Kft. has made it possible to carry out statistical mapping of the used car market. The Office will make the results available as new experimental statistics on a monthly basis. The new publication was presented by the cooperating parties at a press conference on 23 June 2025.

The használtautó.hu portal is Hungary's largest used and new car marketplace, with more than 122 thousand vehicles advertised and 3.5-4.4 million users visiting the site every month. The agreement between the portal operator, Használtautó.hu Kft., and HCSO has created an opportunity for a statistical survey of the used car market, as previously no reliable used car price data with national coverage was available. The Office will now publish the results on a monthly basis. On the occasion of the first edition, the publication was presented on 23 June 2025 at a press conference held in the main building of the HCSO by Márk Koralewsky, manager of the Használtautó.hu Kft. and Dr. Tamás Tóth, Deputy President of the HCSO.

The experimental statistics reveal the percentage distribution of advertised vehicles by offer price and fuel type, the average price per fuel type, the correlation between the age of vehicles and the number of kilometres driven, the ranking of the most frequently advertised vehicles by manufacturer, the average age and offer price of the top ten brands, and the average offer price and average age per brand. The Használtautó.hu-HCSO experimental statistics is an innovative Hungaricum, which also makes it easier to track price changes of the most popular car types.

The publication shows, among other things, that in May 2025, nearly 40 percent of the advertisements on the used car market were for cars under HUF 2.5 million, more than a quarter for cars between HUF 2.5-5 million, a fifth for cars between HUF 5-10 million and more than 13 percent for cars over HUF 10 million. Almost half of the supply was for petrol cars and 42% for diesel cars. Hybrid cars accounted for around 4 percent and electric cars for 5 percent.

The experimental statistics provide useful and detailed information for car buyers, used car dealers, economic analysts and decision makers to gain a thorough understanding of market characteristics and prevailing trends.
