Exact data are a compass – Agrárium 2026 data collection to start

The eyes of the country are on Hungarian farmers from 15 May: Agrárium 2026, HCSO’s national data collection covering tens of thousands of farms, will be launched. The Hungarian Central Statistical Office’s (HCSO’s) data collection covers the total agricultural sector. Questions of land use, animal keeping, manuring, animal housing, wine grape production and labour force will be in the focus of the data collection.

In the data collection carried out between 15 May and 15 July 2026, HCSO collects up-to-date information on the structure of Hungary’s agriculture, from land use to livestock. The incoming data shape professional decision-making, as well as the directions of domestic and EU subsidy policies directly, so the data collection is a basic interest of farmers, too.

Three stages, full digitisation

The Office carries out the data collection by involving some 52 thousand private farms and some 14 thousand agricultural enterprises throughout the country.

  • 15 May – 15 June 2026: compulsory on-line responding for agricultural enterprises and key private farms
  • 15–31 May 2026: possibility of on-line responding for non-key private farms (with a prize draw)
  • 1 June – 15 July 2026: non-key private farms not taking advantage of the possibility of on-line responding will be contacted by enumerators with photo ID and tablet

Agrárium 2026 is not merely a data collection but is one of the most important sources of data, forming the basis of decisions determining the long-term future of Hungary’s agriculture, for both farmers and decision-makers. The authentic and exact data collected in the farm structure data collection provide a reliable basis for properly handling challenges to the sector and for planning targeted policy measures. All this will contribute to strengthening the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of the domestic agriculture.

In focus: land use and animal keeping

The last data collection on the structure of agriculture was carried out in 2023. Péter Tóth, Head of Natural Resources Statistics Department of HCSO, underlined: ‘The 2026 data collection maps the characteristics of land use and livestock of farms, as well as the qualifications and age of farm managers, in addition, we pay special attention to animal housing, manure management and wine grape production. This information gives a more accurate picture of the domestic agriculture, and is the basis of efficient and sustainable production.’

Simple responding

The covered farms will receive an invitation letter containing their entry code, with which they can meet their obligation to supply data on a user-friendly interface. Agricultural enterprises can fill in the questionnaire on the Elektra interface and private farmers on the Maja interface. Data supply is compulsory for those covered. HCSO handles the data while observing the domestic and international rules of data protection, and publishes them only in an aggregated form. Further information on the Agrárium 2026 farm structure data collection is available on HCSO website.
