Launch of the Agricultural Census of Individual Farms

It is recommended to complete the questionnaire online, independently

On 14 November, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) launched the agricultural census of more than 21 thousand individual farms nationwide. Non-priority individual farmers may respond online until 23 November, and thereafter – until 15 December – with the assistance of enumerators. Individual farms engaged in significant agricultural activity (priority farms) may respond exclusively online until 15 December. The purpose of the data collection is to provide up-to-date information for domestic and EU decision-makers as well as for farmers. The survey also enables Hungary to meet its data provision obligations towards the European Union. Participation is compulsory for the designated farms.

The HCSO is conducting its current agricultural census between 14 November and 15 December 2025, covering more than 21 thousand individual farms across the country. The obligation to provide data is prescribed by government decree, and responses are mandatory. Prior to the census period, the HCSO sent all those concerned the necessary information and access codes for completing the questionnaire, either by e-mail or by post.

The survey primarily covers crop production, animal husbandry, agricultural labour, services, investments, and expenditures. The results of the census will support policy decisions serving the interests of producers and the planning of support schemes. A key objective of the HCSO is to reduce the burden on respondents; therefore, data already available from administrative sources need not be provided again.

Non-priority individual farms can fulfil their reporting obligation in two ways. Between 14 and 23 November, they may complete the questionnaire independently online at maja.ksh.hu. Thereafter, between 24 November and 15 December, they may provide their answers with the assistance of enumerators, either in person or by telephone. Non-priority farms that complete the questionnaire online by 23 November will be entered into a draw to win a shopping voucher worth HUF 100,000. Enumerators with photo identification will only contact those farmers who did not make use of the online option. It is important to note that for priority individual farms, the census is conducted entirely through online completion.

The information collected during the census will be used by the HCSO solely for statistical purposes. It will not be disclosed to other bodies or individuals, and the security of data management is guaranteed in accordance with legal requirements. The aggregated results of the data collection will be sent by e-mail to those who requested them when completing the questionnaire.
